Managing editor Robin Russell, an award-winning religion writer with a decade of newspaper experience, became editor of the United Methodist Reporter in September 2005. She has covered religion as a staff writer for the Longview (Texas) News-Journal and a freelance writer for The Dallas Morning News. Ms. Russell has earned first-place writing awards from the Religion Newswriters Association, the Texas Headliners Foundation and the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors. Since coming to the Reporter, she has achieved national recognition from the Associated Church Press, the Religion Communicator’s Council and the United Methodist Association of Communicators. She has a journalism degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a master’s degree from the University of Texas at Tyler, and has taught journalism at LeTourneau University.

Bill Fentum

A graduate of the radio, television and film program at the University of Texas, Mr. Fentum specializes in reviewing movies and covering the film industry. He frequently attends press screenings in Hollywood and New York, and has also written about pop-culture trends. He has been with UMR since 1985, and on the news staff of the Reporter since 2001. The Associated Church Press has recognized his work in the Reporter for excellence in Media Review. In 2006, Mr. Fentum earned a first-place writing award from the Houston Press Club. He is a member at Plymouth Park United Methodist Church in Irving, Texas.

Mary Jacobs

Ms. Jacobs has been a longtime freelance writer for the Dallas Morning News' award-winning Religion section, and has written for Religion News Service. She has received national awards from the Associated Church Press, the Religion Communicators' Council (RCC) and the United Methodist Association of Communicators. In 2004, Ms. Jacobs was named Religion Communicator of the Year by the RCC's Dallas-Fort Worth chapter. With an English degree and an MBA from Case Western Reserve University, she has worked in communications for Bain & Company in Boston, and was news producer for WJW-TV, a CBS affiliate in Cleveland. She and her family are members of University Park United Methodist Church in Dallas.

Mr. Lowery joined UMR in February 2008, and as copy editor he edits and fact-checks every article and scans the wire services for relevant stories to include in the Reporter. Previously, Mr. Lowery was a freelance writer specializing in coverage of several aspects of pop culture, from film to music to comic books to the industries that create them. He is a member of Northaven United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas.

Ms. Forbus works with UMR's web presence, UMPortal.org, and finds ways for online communication to grow relationships across the United Methodist connection. Her role is informed by her background in media relations and her familiarity with the church. An active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Carrollton, Texas, Ms. Forbus is part of the worship band MorningSong and the choir. She also serves at the district, conference and jurisdictional levels.

Erika Dorsey joined the staff at UMR in January of 2008. She has more than 15 years experience in the design, prepress, production and printing fields. In her previous position with a division of The Richards Group, her clients included The Home Depot, Chick-fil-A and Baylor Health Care Systems. Ms. Dorsey's experience helping her own church, First UMC of Terrell, with their printed materials led her to UMR. She enjoys using her gifts and talents to help other churches and non-profit organizations.
